The motivation behind the new design was to give the users a faster more enjoyable website experience, as well as to streamline some of the internal processes to allow for future expansion.

The new design has been well received by the beta testers. The current trend in website design is large, bold and graphical. The designers aimed to meet the requirements of keeping the website looking fresh, while at the same time providing as much information as possible within the typical user's screen size.

High performance is critical for online success, particularly when experiencing exponential visitor growth. An indepth analysis of the website performance highlighted several areas for improvement. The first step was to move the photos and images from the website to a content delivery network (CDN). Rather than the traditional approach of serving images from a single location, a content delivery network stores copies of all photos on multiple servers in different global locations. The network identifies the location of the user and serves the files that are closest to them. Now HotelSearchHQ.com visitors will be able to find hotels faster whether they are located in UK, USA, Russia, Australia, Brazil and China, or anywhere in between.

One of the main internal changes was to implement the YAML XHTML/CSS framework (www.yaml.de/en). Simplying the coding of the website has the double benefit of improving the processing throughput within the server, as well as reducing the size and number of the HTML files themselves. Smaller and faster files contribute greatly to improved website speed.
